Joan Bautista Bernat Sanchis


Joan Bautista Bernat Sanchis was born in Valencia (Spain) in 1996, and was given his first French horn lessons by his father, Juan Bautista Bernat Alcaide. He studied piano with Professor Vicente Zarzo Pitarch and French horn with Juan Bautista Bernat Alcaide at the Conservatoire in Benaguasil (Valencia) where he graduated with the highest distinction. From 2011 to 2012, he studied at the Brass Academy Alicante under Nury Guarnaschelli. Joan Bautista Bernat Sanchis is currently studying at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, under Professor Radovan Vlatkovic.

The young French horn player has already participated in masterclasses with Salvador Navarro, Juan Manuel Gómez González, Nury Guarnaschelli, David Bushell, José Vicente Castelló, Xulio Varela, David Fernández Alonso, Stefan Dohr, Juan José Llimerá, José Miguel Asensí Martí, Luca Benucci, Sarah Willis and Timothy Jones. He also receives a scholarship from the International Music Academy in the Principality of Liechtenstein, where he takes part in the intensive music weeks.

Joan Bautista Bernat Sanchis has won prizes at various national and international competitions. In 2010, he won 1st prize “Laurona” at the international competition in Llíria (Valencia), 2nd prize and the audience prize at the 1st international competition for French horn in Catalonia (Spain) in 2011, and the 2nd prize at the international competition for French horn in Benidorm (Valencia) in 2012.

He is a member of several national and international youth orchestras, for example the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Valencia, the Orchestral Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Germany, the Nederlandse Junger Orkest (NJO) and the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE). He performed as a soloist with the Hulencourt Soloists Chamber Orchestra (HSCO) in Belgium. In 2010, the young horn player appeared in the final concert of the “Llíria International Competition for Young Performers”. In 2011 he gave solo performances in several concerts staged by the Orchestra of the University of Valencia. He was also invited to appear as a soloist with the Valencia Brass Band in 2013. In February 2015 he participated in the NEXT GENERATION Festival in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland.
